amitAMIT KUMAR
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE(GENERAL)
PUNJAB UNIVERSITY

I have done my graduation in science from Panjab University. During my college days I volunteered for few NGO's and was exposed to a number of social problems. One of the biggest issues being globalisation and its effect on the modern contemporary Indian society. How post-globalisation things have changed in context to society, economy, workforce etc. I found this course, Globalisation and Labour, answering all my questions. And the course will provide the much needed platform for understanding globalisation especially from the labour prospective. This course will help me think rationally and more pragmatically as a human being and as a professional.

AnjaliANJALI BEDEKAR
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN POLITICAL SCIENCE
MUMBAI UNIVERSITY

I have been working for the State Bank of India(SBI) since 1977. I have been involved in the union activities in SBI since 1990s.I am a member of the Core Committee of my union, SBI Staff Union(Mumbai Circle) since 1999. My Union represents all branches of SBI in Maharashtra and Goa . This Union is affiliated to All India State Bank of India Staff Federation(AISBISF). AISBISF is the apex federation in SBI. It has completed 60 years. I am the first woman member in the council and in the Executive Committee of AISBISF. I am involved in some training activities connected with UNI GLOBAL UNION and am President of UNI-ILC Women Committee.

With my background in trade union, I have experience of field work at grass root level. I have always felt the need to learn more about labour legislations and various issues connected with formal and informal sector labour. I also want to understand the phenomenon of globalisation. Trade unions are facing challenges thrown at them by globalization and a systematic study of its various aspects will be helpful.

ApurbaAPURBA KUMAR NATH
BACHELOR OF ARTS HISTORY(HONOURS)
UNIVERSITY OF DELHI

I have done my graduation in History (Honours) from Delhi University. Studying history gave me a chance to look at how different social, economic and political processes have evolved over the time. From the very outset of my life I was very sure of what I do not want to become in life; I always wanted to do something that makes some sense and at the end of the day makes me happy. That is why I took the course in Globalisation and Labour , a programme that will help me in bringing “change” and contribute to society.

ArunimaARUNIMA CHAKRABORTY
BACHELOR OF ARTS HISTORY(HONOURS
AND PG DIPLOMA(PRINT JOUNALISM)
ASIAN COLLEGE OF JOURNALISM,CHENNAI

I am a History graduate from Cotton College, Guwahati. My urge to go off the beaten track combined with my avid interest in creative writing made me go into the field of journalism; I worked for a year as a reporter with the Financial Express, Delhi. It is during this period that I became increasingly aware of not just the economic but the socio-cultural and political changes happening across the world, including India, thanks to the phenomenon called Globalisation. As I read up and observed more and more, realisation dawned that the picture of the world in the globalised era is not uniformly as rosy as it is believed to be by many; there is a lesser-known but equally fascinating side of globalisation as it affects the masses, the so-called third world. As a student of Globalisation and Labour, I hope to read, explore and discover the myriad and not so-obvious facets of globalisation and its impact on the vast multitudes of the country who are engaged in the ever burgeoning informal sector.

GirijaGIRIJA BRAHMA
BACHELOR OF ARTS POLITICAL SCIENCE(HONOURS)

I have done my graduation from University of Delhi in Political Science. I have always wanted to do things that give me a sense of satisfaction. This course in Globalisation and Labour is perhaps the best decision that I have made in my life till now. The course has got immense importance as it trains a person to do something for the larger mass of people  in unorganised sector. It has a global appeal and good exposure for a person who wants to excel in the field of labour studies.

JohnsonJOHNSON ABHISHEK MINZ
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE PHYSICS(HONOURS)
RANCHI UNIVERSITY

I am a Physics graduate from St.Xavier's College, Ranchi. After completing my graduation I had part time work experience for 8 months as Site Supervisor in 'Techmech Associates' in Jamshedpur. Staying in a city like Jamshedpur, I was well aware of the complex relationship between the management and the labourers in the companies and what the role of trade unions was, in this context. Also working with the labourers for a brief but sufficient period I got first hand knowledge of issues concerning the labourers. There was a need to act. Through this course, 'Globalisation and Labour', I intend to further enhance my knowledge and establish a platform which would be a base for my future ventures in improving the conditions of labourers.

JoyJOY
BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING(LEATHER TECHNOLODGY)
BACHELOR OF ARTS (PUBLIC ADMINSTRATION)
B.R.A. BIHAR UNIVERSITY,IGNOU

I have done Engineering in Leather Technology (M.I.T.,Muzaffarpur) and have worked with Radiant Leathers Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata. I also hold a degree in Public Administration from IGNOU. While working in the leather industry I realized that despite being one of the largest producers of leather, the working conditions of the industry in India is at a very low ebb. I think Globalisation and Labour will enable me to think more critically about the administrative functions from the labour point of view.

I did my graduation in English Honours from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi. As a student of literature, I was exposed to a whole new world of politics, which, for the very first time in my life, came to be redefined as issues from everyday life. As we read about, and engaged with, issues of gender, caste, class and religion, amongst others, I knew I wanted to get out in the world and participate in change, participate in the dismantling of oppressive structures, and put my energy where my mouth is. That is why I am here. This course will give me the unique combination of theory and practise, so I can begin working towards my goal as soon as possible.

NibeditaNIBEDITA HAZARIKA
BACHELOR OF ARTS HISTORY(HONOURS)
UNIVERSITY OF DELHI

I did my graduation in History from Ramjas College, Delhi University. The course content and, in particular, the Delhi University campus life, compelled me to come to terms with some harsh truths underlying our society, such as issues of caste based politics, regional or ethnic identity issues, gender and on the whole, exploitation of the labouring class. I also did a diploma course in Human Rights and Peace and Conflict Resolution, which made me stand up, even more, vocally and theoretically, for marginalised issues.

This unique course of Globalisation and Labour will provide me the first hand experience of these problems and help me towards realising these objectives

randhirRANDHIR KUMAR
MASTER OF SCIENCE (ZOOLOGY)
UNIVERSITY OF DELHI

I have done my MSc. in Zoology from University of Delhi in 2007.After that I have worked as a H.R Executive in Pyramid Career Shapers (Delhi) for ten months. I was looking for diversification and was in search of a course which was not only unique but had something different to offer and when I came to know about this course I was pretty sure that this was what I wanted to do.

What appealed to me about the course was that it has a lot of field work and one whole year is devoted to internship and creation of a dissertation. As practical and field knowledge is as important as theoretical part, this course is indeed the best in India which can give so much exposure and action. I wish to work extensively in the field of labour.

RashmiRASHMI CHORDIYA
BACHELOR OF ARTS (POLITICAL SCIENCE)
PUNE UNIVERSITY

I am a Political Science Graduate from Fergusson College, Pune University. In my college I was an active participant of the Sociology Club where I was first exposed to myriad aspects of our unequal and prejudiced society and its manifestations in the form of patriarchy, caste and class and my exposure to the unbridled and blatant forms of these systems left a indelible mark on me. My Undergraduate course in Women and Development further widened the horizon of my thinking and especially trained me to think critically. As a part of this course I conducted a pilot survey on domestic women workers for AIDWA(All India Democratic Women's Association). My visit to Hamal Panchayat in Pune gave me an opportunity to observe the functioning of the 'Mathadi Workers' from close quarters. This aroused my interest to understand more thoroughly the nuances of informal work. Hence a logical consequence of my exposure to the field of unorganised workers is my choice of this very different and most relevant course of Globalisation and Labour

SidrahSIDRAH PATEL
BACHELOR OF COMMERCE
NARSEE MONJEE COLLEGE OF COMMERCE AND ECONOMICS

I am a Commerce graduate from Narsee Monjee College Of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. Globalisation and Labour Welfare in individual capacities have always interested me.

Since I have been an Economics student, I have always been aware of the importance of “the human” both at the beginning and end of the value chain, i.e. in the capacity of a part of the production process and a consumer as well. Having worked with several NGOs in the fields of education, welfare and AIDS helped me put this in the right perspective. I realized that labour welfare is imperative for the sustainability of any process, irrespective of the process or context.

The manner and rate at which Globalisation unfolds itself, interests me. I believe that Globalisation, most certainly, has the power to enrich the lives of all, provided it is administered properly.

The M.A. in Globalisation and Labour will help me pursue my interests in the right direction, with a mix of both theoretical and practical understanding of the various issues at hand. That is why I’m here, at TISS, pursuing this course and I hope to contribute towards a positive and productive change.

TariqTARIQ RASOOL WANI
BACHELOR OF ARTS(PASS)
POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN NGO MANAGEMENT
AMITY UNIVERSITY,UNIVERSITY OF KASHMIR

I completed my Bachelors in Arts from University of Kashmir in the year 2005. After graduation, I worked in an MNC (A Tourism KPO) for about 2 years, in New Delhi. I joined the place as a “Sales Consultant” and left the place as a “Senior Sales Consultant”.

After having gained some dexterity and work-experience, I realized for myself that the time has come to rejuvenate my early aspirations, which due to some reasons had lost its track and coherence from within, and I was also not really happy with the kind of the work environment that surrounded me, then. That is where I decided to get on with higher education, and education that will help me garnish my aspirations so that I could thrive on them and seek to fulfill them effectively and confidently.

It is this urge which made me join Amity Uiversity, Noida, from where I completed my P.G Diploma in NGO Management in the year 2008 and also completed a 2 months Internship with an International NGO called (CRY-Child Rights You) New Delhi, where I was assigned a position of a Survey Analyst. I also completed a two weeks training in social science research methods, conducted by Council for Social Development— a pioneer organization that works for Social Development all over the country, with their head Office in Lodhi Road, New Delhi. It is from these engagements that further inspired and boosted my urge to learn more and made me more passionate for higher learnings.

That is where I began to look for a course which can provide me that extra edge I was seeking for, that is to understand things from a global perspective so to develop and recourse the kind of activism I have always wanted to get into. Luckily I came to know about the course called “Globalization and Labour” offered by TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES. After having discovered the richness of the contents of this course and the underlying mandate behind this course, I realized I should make no delays in preparing myself for the same, and that is how I am here now.

COURSE IN MASS MEDIA COMMUNICATION
RANCHI UNIVERSITY

I am a science graduate from St. Xavier's College, Ranchi. I have also done a certificate course in Journalism and Mass Communication. I used to write articles as a freelancer.
